Chester rallies to clinch spot in Delco League playoffs

From the Daily Times posted 7/24/2021

Chester was not about to let a spot in the Delco League playoffs slip through its hands.

Jamal Bohannan, Gilbert Peralta, Steve Cornog and Davie Eisner all came up big as Chester rallied for a 13-10 victory over Upper Darby Friday night to clinch fifth place and a berth in next week’s quarterfinals.

Chester’s victory leaves one playoff spot available. Narberth has a two-point lead on Marple Newtown with one game left. The Mudcats host Aston Valley Sunday while the Black Sox take on Chester Saturday. The playoffs begin next Tuesday.

Bohannan ignited a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning that erased a 10-9 deficit. His two-run double gave Chester the lead. Peralta and Cornog followed with RBI singles to extend the advantage to three runs.

That was all David Eisner needed to nail down the win. Eisner threw a 1-2-3 seventh to secure the victory. He pitched the final three innings for Chester.

Bohannan finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Peralta was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored. Brayden Hughes drove in two runs and Patrick Warrington was 2-for-4 and scored three times.

Vinny Gasbarro slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to give the Blue Sox the lead. It was his second bomb of the game. He also had a two-run blast in

a five-run third inning. Thylar Summarell added two hits and two RBIs. Sean Donahue added two RBIs and Andrew Yates had two hits for UD.
