Chester leaned on solid pitching to come away with a sweep of Springfield, 5-2 and 13-5.
In Game 1 winning pitcher Justin Brooks hurled six innings of two-run ball. He struck out four.
Luke Zimmerman, the 2018 Daily Times Player of the Year from Marple Newtown, recorded the save. Zimmerman started Game 2, tossing three no-hit innings with five strikeouts, and crushed a three-run homer.
Shane Benedict hurled four innings, scattering three hits and five earned runs with three punchouts, to pick up the win in Game 2.
Marquise Wood went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored in Chester’s opening victory. Pat Warrington added two hits, including a squeeze bunt in the sixth inning. Bobby Williams finished 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Erik Molinaro went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Springfield.
Chester’s offense in Game 2 was powered by Edwin Lee, who was 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBIS. Warrington (three RBIs) chipped in with two base knocks.
