Trainor throws ice on Marple’s last-inning surge
From the Daily Times posted 6/27/2021
It wasn’t pretty but the Springfield Colonials will take it.
Steve Trainor wiggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth inning to preserve Springfield’s 10-8 victory over Marple Newtown in the Delco League Saturday.
Trainor entered the game with the bases loaded, no outs and three runs already in. He would allow two inherited runners to score on a hit batter and a ground out, but recorded the final three outs to nail down the save.
Luke Piontek ripped a two-run triple for the Colonials. Jimmy Kirk also drove in two runs and had two hits, as did Piontek, Matt Shepherd, Gabe Encarnacion and Jonny Flieder. Dan Ouimette got the win.
Steve DiStefano drove in four runs and Tom Carey ripped two hits for the Black Sox, who scored five times in the bottom of the seventh inning to make things interesting.
