Three Pitchers Work Together As Wayne Shuts Out Springfield


Wayne defeated Springfield 9-0 on Thursday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ashton Raines struck out Piontek to finish off the game.

Wayne opened up scoring in the first inning. Drew Ehrlich hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.

Wayne scored three runs in the third inning. Wayne batters contributing to the big inning included Matt Briner and Dan Williams, all knocking in runs in the inning.

One bright spot for Springfield was a single by DiChacchio in the third inning.

Tom Cockill earned the victory on the mound for Wayne. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over four innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Neill took the loss for Springfield. He allowed six hits and five runs over two innings, striking out two.

Wayne had 12 hits in the game. Williams and Briner all managed multiple hits for Wayne. Williams led Wayne with three hits in four at bats. Wayne was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Tommy Jacobs had the most chances in the field with ten.
