from the Daily Times posted 8/3/2020

Ashton Raines, Santino Nave and Will Peiffer made sure Wayne finished the Delco League regular season on a strong note.

The trio combined on a three-hitter to lead the defending champions to a 5-1 victory over Marple Newtown in the regular-season finale Sunday.

Raines allowed one hit and struck out two in two innings. Nave fanned two in three hitless innings, and Peiffer surrendered two hits, one earned run and whiffed three in two innings. Peiffer also had a double and a run scored.

Dan Williams paced the offense with two RBIs. Tommy Jacobs and Luke Mutz drove in one run each.

David Judge hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Black Sox to spoil the shutout bid.

Wayne closed out the season with a six-game winning streak and a 10-game unbeaten streak to grab the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, which begin Tuesday. Wayne hosts eighth-seeded Concord Tuesday night at Devon Prep. The sites for the rest of the series have not been determined.

In the other quarterfinal series, No. 2 Narberth takes on No. 7 Chester, No. 3 Springfield plays No. 6 Upper Darby and No. 5 Aston Valley takes on No. 4 Marple Newtown. Sites are to be determined.
