Springfield 8, Marple Newtown 7

Roberts is better late, and Springfield wasn’t sorry

FROM THE DAILY TIMES POSTED:

Jackson Roberts kept Springfield alive and won the game, all in the same night.

Roberts had a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to tie the score, then delivered a walk-off single in the seventh to complete the Colonials’ come-from-behind, 8-7 Delco League victory over Marple Newtown.

Marple struck for four runs to take a one-run lead in the sixth. Joe Sheeran led off Springfield’s half and scored on Roberts’ sac fly.

Roberts drove in three runs with two hits. Norm Donkin, Gabe Encarnacion, Dan Shepherd and Sheera all collected two knocks for Springfield. Tom Osenbach recorded the win in relief of starter Vince Piccione, who scattered five hits and three runs in five innings of work.
